Our brains are remarkably adaptable. Through targeted counselling techniques, we can work together to rewire unhelpful neural patterns and build new pathways that support your wellbeing.
For many years, scientists believed the brain was fixed after childhood. We now know that the brain continues to change throughout our lives - a concept called neuroplasticity. This means that regardless of your age or experiences, positive change is always possible.
Every experience we have creates neural pathways in our brain. Repeated experiences strengthen these pathways, making certain thoughts, feelings, and behaviours become automatic. While this is helpful for learning skills, it can also lead to unhelpful patterns becoming deeply ingrained.
For example, if you grew up in an environment where you learned to be hypervigilant about danger, your brain may have developed strong threat-detection pathways. These pathways served a purpose at the time, but may now cause unnecessary anxiety in safe situations.
